Larry Schwarm

Photography

This four-day photography workshop will focus on the prairie landscape, with an emphasis on developing a personal style. Days will begin with discussions about other artists working in the landscape tradition, critiques of the previous day’s work, and assignments followed by either group field trips or working independently. At the end of the session, we will present an exhibition of work created during our workshop.

Topics to be covered will include composition, editing, sequencing and, of course, content. This will be digital only and participants are expected to have a basic camera (with controls – not phone cameras) and a basic understanding of their equipment.

All workshop events will be prairie themed and related to the area landscape. Artists will be encouraged to try different media and keep a sketchbook/diary of topics covered. Reference material for painting will be gathered through photography or direct observation to the sketchbook. Participants will have time to work on individual projects and time will be set aside for discussion and critique of work. Several “field trips” will be taken to observe the landscape, visit various galleries, artist’s studios and locations of interest.
